James & Helen, Small business owners
James and Helen have been running a successful business for the past 8 years.
They were referred to us by a client of ours because they felt like they have been winging it so far. This has been working out well for them however now their needs are becoming increasingly complex and the way forward is not as clear to them as it has been.
Through applying our values based approach we clarified their personal objectives then analysed and refined their business plan so it aligned with the achievement of their personal objectives. In addition, we pulled together various specialist resources in the areas of legal, tax and lending to achieve both their planned and unplanned objectives.
The key benefit to James and Helen in seeking advice in this area was the clarity and knowledge they gained regarding the levers within the business that they needed to control if they were to achieve their personal outcomes. They felt a level of comfort and less anxiety. They also now have a base from which to assess opportunities and threats and how these may impact the achievement of what is most important to them.

Fred, Peter and Tim – Business succession planning
Fred, Peter and Tim are brothers and equal owners in a restaurant. There is a few years age gap between each of them. One is divorced and living in a defacto relationship with a child from the first marriage, the other is married with a new baby and the third is engaged and planning for a family. Two of the brothers rent while the other in paying off a mortgage on the home they live in. They have investment properties with mortgages.
Given their age differences and their varying personal requirements they approached us about personal and business insurances. Upon exploring the ownership of the restaurant business we identified that each of the brothers are at risk personally and professionally in the event that accident or illness struck one of the brothers.
We proceeded to explore their planned and unplanned exits from the restaurant business and recommended a buy / sell agreement and appropriate funding levels to pay out an exiting brother in the event of accident or illness.
We also assessed their personal risks and structured their affairs to self insure where appropriate and use insurance through Super to insure against other risks.
Personal estate plans were prepared for the three brothers after their affairs have been efficiently and effectively restructured.

Brian, financial services executive
Brian is a Financial Services Executive, married with a young family and trying to paying off their mortgage.
He and his wife had clear goals about improving the home, setting aside funds for private schooling and overseas travel. These were all ideas they knew they could achieve but at what cost and in what order.
Through applying our values based approach we determined that what mattered most to them was providing the chance for their children to experience the world as they had. A nice place to live, a good education and travel could do that but how would these things impact their own ability to be financially free once the children had moved out of home.
In the first few months we put some rigor behind these goals, defined the variables and established a financial plan. We restructured existing finance and assets and developed their Estate Plan. In addition to the wealth accumulation strategies we explored the impact of unforeseen tragedies. We developed a risk management plan that allowed them to achieve their lifestyle goals with confidence.
As the years progress we monitor changes in the variables and reset the model. Every meeting has a purpose in line with the goals they are trying to achieve.
As a result of the planning process Brian and Meredith have established a journey they are committed to because they know why these goals are important to them.
